BARKLEY COVE BUGLE by Aidan Somers
MARSH GIRL CAUGHT IN TRAP
Today our brave Sherriff and courageous deputies were able to apprehend the Marsh Girl [Kya Clarke] about a mile out to sea from Jumpin's wharf.
The Marsh Girl, always considered an outsider and vagrant here in town, is the prime suspect in the horrific murder of Barkley Cove's own beloved star Quarterback, Chase Andrews. Her motive is believed to be a spurned love she had for young Mister Andrews. It seems she just couldn't let anyone else have him!
The Sherriff and his deputies, had noted the Marsh Girl's movements of late. They then lay in waiting off shore from Jumpin's shop in a heavy fog and the rat fell into their trap. A brief chase ensued in which the quarry seriously injured a passer-by, ramming her boat. However Miss Clarke was soon apprehended by the dogged Sherriff [though even then she did not go quietly, as animals are most dangerous when cornered].
But what was the damning evidence that undoubtedly proved her guilt? A combination of an eye-witness seeing her make for the fire tower on the night of the murder and some fibers on the body of Mister Andrews that matched a hat in the accused's possession!
The people of Barkley Cove can only hope that the Prosecution in this case will demand the electric chair and send her to the afterlife where, undoubtedly, she will be punished again. The trial is set to continue again next week. Any citizen of Barkley Cove selected for the Jury in this case will no doubt know the only just verdict.
